Because Mead Street already has food, businesses, community, and motion. La Tapatia, Josephine's Home of the Lemon Pepper Taco, Butler Candy Land, Bajas, Wells Brothers, La Taquiza, the COP House, the neighborhood park, Tony Chambers with the DA9 Social Lounge food truck, and Snaps near Racine Street are already part of the area. Motion on Mead is about bringing more people out to eat, shop, walk, meet neighbors, and support what is already here.
Putting on an organized, enjoyable, and safe event requires real resources. The vendor fee helps cover what is needed to create and operate the private gated vendor space. Standard spaces are $75 for one day or $125 for both days.
Vendors and the community were already planning for that weekend. After Party on the Pavement announced a $600 vendor fee, some vendors began looking for another option. Motion on Mead gives those businesses and visitors another place to go without telling anyone where not to go.
So people do not have to choose. Visit Party on the Pavement one day and Motion on Mead the other, or come see Motion on Mead both days. The goal is to give Racine more places to gather and support local businesses.
